Emma Holmgren
If you’ve seen her work, you know: it doesn’t sit quietly on the wall. It pulses.
If you’ve seen her work, you know: it doesn’t sit quietly on the wall. It pulses.
When we talk, Emma says she actually likes limits. Too many options make her anxious. So she sets her own rules, deliberately, stubbornly — and then pushes hard against them from the inside. She works exclusively with yarn she describes as “quite matte and boring.” And then makes it sing anyway. That’s not a trick. That’s mastery. Rules first. Then stretch them.
Using traditional weaving techniques, she coaxes textiles into something wild and expressive. Painterly, ikat surfaces that feel alive in the weave. Emma’s work looks like no one else’s. You can feel the long history of women’s textile art in there, but she still leaves a completely personal fingerprint.
