We’ve known Karolina Kling’s work since back in the days at HDK in Gothenburg, when we studied side by side. Even then, she had it. That sharp, fearless eye for color and form. The kind of instinct you can’t teach, only sharpen. Years later, it’s still there – louder, bolder, impossible to ignore.
Karolina works out of Gothenburg, but her designs feel like they slipped in from another orbit. Bold, off-kilter, full of rhythm. Patterns that move like sound waves. Colors that don’t sit politely – they hum, they clash, they flirt. Her work bends everyday objects into small explosions of attitude.

Q: You have a sharp instinct for patterns and colors that feel current — often even ahead of their time. Where do you think that intuition comes from?
A: Great question. I have always loved color. Especially when a color meets another and creates just that perfect combination. Color is what inspires me the most and whatever I do, I start with deciding the colors of the project / item. I have no ide where the intuition comes from, it’s just something I have always felt comes quite natural to me. To see what works and what doesn’t.
Q: Trends move fast, especially in interiors. How do you create work that feels relevant now without chasing what’s already everywhere?
A: Because I have been working so many years within the fashion industry (Im not anymore), where everything moves so fast and you constantly chasing the next thing, I have allowed myself when working with interior and artistic projects, not to care at all what is in trend or not. I just get inspired by all sorts of things that I see. Also, If I start to compare myself to other designers I wouldn't do anything as everything is already done. I do it out from a lust and need to just be create, if that makes sense.
Q: Bold patterns can completely change the energy of a room. What role do you think interior objects should play in shaping how a space is experienced?
A: Personally I really enjoy mixing patterns and just putting together whatever feels right. Right now I’m working at a wallpaper company, so of course what I design often completely takes over the whole room and often becomes a bold expression. But I also like it when it’s more subtle and appears in details in the space as well. Art, fabrics, rugs, pillows, you can have patterns everywhere without it being too much. Just make sure they’re the right patterns, haha.
Q: When your visual language moves from art into everyday objects, what do you want to stay uncompromised?
A: First, I need to make sure that the painting or pattern I want to use works well for the product, and especially for the material. The colors will also feel and look different depending on the material, so I would say it’s really important to me that product has high-quality materials. I’m good at visualizing everything I work with, and that helps me achieve the end result I want.
